Castle by Fallenangel5772 Castle by Fallenangel5772
Castle I had stippled for a school project. Completely made up of small dots.

EDITED: 9/8/08:

Due to the popularity this seems to be gaining, I decided I would give a bit more info so I am not answering the same questions over & over again.

The reference photo for this was the German castle, Neuschwanstein. I do not have a link for the original photo because this was drawn in 2004. The drawing is on 8"X8" paper. The image is made up completely of dots. I'm not sure what type of pen I used, because my teacher had let me borrow his for this project. The project was to create a wine bottle & create our own label. This is the image I used for the label of the bottle. You can check out the project here.

I worked on this project for about 2 weeks. Not sure exactly how many hours were spent on it.

I'm more than willing to answer any other questions you have!

 Mandee

Yes, I did it as a school project in college. I spent many classes working on it plus countless hours at home trying to get it done. I wish I had kept track of the time, but at the time was just more interested in completing it. I never truely finished the entire project (had to make it into a label & create a wine bottle), but still got an A on it. The teacher was luckily understanding & realized I had put as much work into the drawing as everyone else had for the entire project.

Ahh I could actually picture this on a label for a wine bottle... You really do have a good hand at pen and ink... I think you should maybe consider buying a rapidograph? The lines and dots are always even with those... They work extremely well, but they're just a little pricey. If you do get one, I advise you DON'T get a pack of them. Honestly, the whole pack isn't worth it because you'll probably only use one or two of them. (You fill them with india ink made for rapidographs. However, it's not like a regular fountain pen. It's not blotchy unless you try to shake the ink down. If the ink doesn't come out, just check to make sure there's enough ink in there first, try cleaning the pen out with water, or hold it so that the ink has enough time to get to the tip. And don't waste your money on any rapidograph cleaner, using water alone works)

I bought mine at a store called Michaels.. I'm not sure if you have one near you though.
If not, you can just probably go to any art or craft store and see if they sell any... I'd say to look online, too, but online all I've found are the sets. And if you buy a rapidograph, check to see how big it says the tip is! (I think you MIGHT like the 0/35 tip... it's not too fine and it's not too thick)

My mom had gotten a set of the rapidograph pens for me as a gift awhile back. Its now the only pen I will use when making these drawings. I've used it for all of my more recent drawings. I mainly use the .25mm size, a lot of the others in the pack are just too large for the size of the drawings I work on. Maybe if I was making something poster size I would use a larger one.

I keep thinking about buying a black paint pen & trying to stipple some drawings on a wall. It would take forever, but I think it would make a room look beautiful :)

True, I would hate to have to leave a piece of art like that & have someone maybe paint over it. Maybe I can buy some panel that I can hang.

Wow... I can see you must've put a ton of effort into this, I can't imagine having the patience to draw a picture dot by dot, myself. =P I am amazed by how you managed to put so much detail into it, even though it is simply made up out of dots! ^^

I am amazed too that i manage to get so much detail in my stippling/pointillism pieces. I find that the smaller the pen, the more detail I can add.

I really enjoy dot work art, especially tattoos (given the comittment involved). This is absoutely gorgeous. The perspective is especially impressive, given the medium. Great work!
